Dear Journal,
Today is November 17th, 1989 and the revolution has finally begun! I have been trying to tell my fellow citizens of the need for democratic reform, but up until now action had not been taken. But today will be a day marked in the history books because it is the day that Czechoslovakia finally opened its eyes to the horrors of Communism and actually tried to revolt against it like other countries all over Europe. I have been arguing for this reform to happen for a while now and I have gone to far lengths to try to make these ideas spark. I have been thrown in jail for my actions, but now that the revolution has begun I have high hopes for the future. This reform should lead to better rights for everyone and I am excited to be part of this event. If all goes right we should have a new government in no time and I will do anything to get that result. Even if I am thrown in jail again it doesn't matter, because as long as there is one person who understands my message, like those kids in today's protest, then my dream will live on.

Dear Journal,
We have started taking steps to get closer to our goal and I would like to take this time to thank all of those who have gotten us this far in our fight for democratic reform. A lot of people have considered me the leader of this opposition in Czechoslovakia, but that still doesn't mean I couldn't have made it this far without the help of some very important groups of people. One of my earlier steps that lead me to helping in the revolution was my participation in a civic initiative known as Chapter 77. So now I am beginning my own reform group, with help from others, to gather together all those who are like me and want political change because if we want to get anything done we have to work together to get our point across. I call it the Civic Forum and I have decided that it is time that we all protested together, so on November 27, 1989 we will all gather together in a general strike. We have reached over 500,000 members and we are still growing in numbers. The government won't have any choice but to give us rights when they see all of their citizens banded together for such a noble cause.

Dear Journal,
With the general strike now over I am starting to look at the future for our country and I am not sure what to think because I can imagine there being good and bad consequences for our actions. Of course it is great that our citizens will get the rights that we deserve but such a radical change in our government is not always the best for a country on a political stand point. It takes a while to get a new government working and it will take a while to break it in before everything is running as smoothly as we want it. There is a rough road ahead of us as we get closer to acheiving our goal, but I believe that with enough dedication we can eventually reach our goal of a better tommorow. The benefits are far too great to give up now and there has been too much work put into this to stop now. Countless people have stood up against our current Communist government which has been in place for decades when they know that many people, including myself, have been thrown in jail for doing exactly that. Their dedication is amazing and I will do what I can to help make sure that their actions are not a waste!
From, Václav Havel Dear Journal,
Just after 10 days of protesting and revolution we have acheived our goal! I never imagined it would be this fast and there was barely any violence before that bumpy start we had with the police and the student protestors. All of our work has not been a waste and I am proud I have been a part of this but it is not over yet because I have another role to play for my country. On this day, November 29, 1989, I have been made the president of Czechoslovakia and I promise that I will lead my country to democratic reform to the best of my ability. It is a great honor to be given such a powerful position and everyone must trust me with it because this is a big time in our country's history and it will take a lot of work to change from a way of life that we have known for the last couple decades. Wish me luck! I have a lot of work ahead of me and I will do all I can!
